Hell: A cruel LIE?

The wages of sin is death. The gift of God is Eternal Life through Christ. (Romans 6:23)
Jesus said those that trust Him will not “perish” but will “inherit Eternal Life“. (John 3:16)

Death? Perish? How did the idea that God tortures folks forever come about?

To understand watch the video below by Edward Fudge and/or read the articles. His amazing, one hour presentation fairly examines Scripture and church history. It may happily change the way you look at eternal life and Jesus Christ.

Two great articles are also linked below, a short one and a more in depth one. Reading these may stir you to examine Scripture anew concerning God’s plan for the final destination of the wicked.

As we all know, God grants eternal life to those that love Him. (John 6:40)
The Bible says only God is immortal. ”He who is the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings and Lord of lords, who alone possesses immortality…” (1 Tim 6:15-16)

Sadly, most are taught to believe Satan’s first lie to mankind.
You shall NOT die, you shall be like God“.
(Genesis 3:4-5)

Here is the complete, 1 hour presentation given by Edward Fudge, author of The Fire that Consumes. (Book summary here.) View it and better understand our Savior, Jesus Christ.

Below are two articles. Each is extremely readable. The first one prints out to about 16 pages. The second is longer and goes into greater detail. If you read them you can not help but be convinced that God did not establish an eternal torture chamber called hell.

Article 1. HELL: Eternal Torment or Complete Annihilation?

It seems to me that nearly the entire Bible teaches that eternal life is only experienced in Heaven, that Hell is a place of complete destruction and annihilation. There are many scripture passages that seem to clearly teach this, but there are others that admittedly seem to teach the traditional view as well. The Bible must never be thought to contradict itself, regardless of what simple meanings may be found in certain verses. When two positions seem to come at odds with one another, one must decide which view fits best in the overall interpretation of the Bible. Verses ought not to be taken by themselves but instead cross-checked against other scripture passages to decide what it is that the Lord is actually trying to teach us in His Word.

While some passages might seem to indicate one line of teaching and others seem to hint at a different one, there can be only one correct interpretation. Hell is either eternal or not—there is certainly no middle ground.

Article 2. HELL – TORMENT OR ANNIHILATION?

Few teachings have troubled the human conscience over the centuries more than the traditional view of hell as the place where the lost suffer conscious punishment in body and soul for all eternity. The prospect that one day a vast number of people will be consigned to the everlasting torment of hell is most disturbing and distressing to sensitive Christians. After all, almost everyone has friends or family members who have died without making a commitment to Christ. The prospect of one day seeing them agonizing in hell for all eternity can easily lead thinking Christians to say to God: “No thank you God. I am not interested in Your kind of paradise!”

John Stott, one of the best known theologians of our time, who wrote the book ‘Basic Christianity‘, changed his view. So did we. Can you?

It seems to us that Satan, the father of lies, has three whoppers about God, at least ONE of which almost EVERYONE believes.

Lie #1. There is no God. (Evolution)

Lie #2. We are like God. (Immortal soul)

Lie #3. God is an evil torturer. (‘Hell’ = Conscious suffering forever.)

If you believe Lie #1 please visit and study at www.AnswersInGenesis.org

Or contact us with questions at Watchman@JesusChrist.com

May God bless us and you! We only seek the truth.

And the truth is that ‘Christ died for our sins.’ (1 Corinthians 15:3). He took our place. Praise Him forever!

  1. Gary Ray Goebel says:

Please pray for my grandfather, Gerhard Walter “Gary” Goebel. He’s in congestive heart failure, a touch of pneumonia, his kidneys are weak and are starting to fail, he had but no longer has severely low blood pressure, he’s confused off and on, more so than not and he’s 101 years old.

We have been fortunate enough to have pastors pray for my grandfather with us and speak to us about him and about our own Christian needs/beliefs.

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to share this with you. God bless you all.

    Sincerely,

Gary Ray Goebel (for Gerhard “Gary” Goebel)

  2. I would like to understand more about Lie # 2 “We are like God (Immortal Soul)”. That is something I had honestly never considered before. I’m afraid I don’t understand the claim or the support for the claim. Could someone establish that for me? I would love to understand more. Thanks!

Almost all folks on the planet believe that their soul is immortal. Their body will die and then their soul will go somewhere.
The Bible says no such thing. Only God possesses immortality. ”He who is the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings and Lord of lords, who alone possesses immortality…” (1 Tim 6:15-16)
It teaches that Jesus Christ, the creator and sustainer of all things, can and does chose His elect for eternal life with Him. All others will receive the penalty of sin: DEATH in the Lake of Fire.

Satan is a very good liar.

      • SoldierOfYHWH says:

With all due respect dear Believer, God is not the only being with an immortal soul. When Jesus speaks, which is very soon, he will clear up all scriptural misinterpretation that have been provided by human imperfection and error. One of the reasons that the Pharisees and Sadducees’ hated Jesus is because he would correct their misinterpretations and reveal to them things they knew nothing about (that were not in the Torah). If you do not have wisdom, then you cannot fully see the truth.

The angels souls are immortal as well. It is for this reason they will be Hells chief occupants. The angels are sparks from GOD and have been given authority to perform in His service. In other words, the angels are truly like God, with the exception that they are not Almighty (something they forgot at The Fall). Angels have the authority to speak and act on God’s behalf.

Since angels souls are immortal, their spirits cannot be extinguished. This is one of the reasons that the Fall of the Devil and The Fall of the angels (Watchers) who followed later was so detested. God stripped the angels of their authority (swords) and their ability to travel back and forth from Heaven to earth (their ‘wings’) and momentarily confined them to the material world, but their final destination is the Lake of Fire that burns for eternity. Hell is a supernatural prison (not a physical/literal place) reserved for the souls of the wicked immortal . Hell would have never had any occupants if it had not been for the Falls (plural) of the angels.

The human spirit can be made immortal, but only due to the Gift that Jesus gave and only after it has been cleansed through trial and tribulation (the reason we suffer). The greatest punishment that a human could possibly receive from God is that of being denied access to the Kingdom and being wiped from the memories of the righteous survivors. God’s Mercy and the concept of eternal torture of humans are contradictory in nature. While God’s judgment is severe, His Love and Understanding tempers every Judgment He makes. If the wages/penalties of sin is death, where is the eternal suffering in death, especially if the dead are conscious of nothing?

However, diabolical and wicked humans like the Mexican Cartels, serial killers and Middle Eastern terrorist, who have forever been ‘immortalized’ through infamy, do have a hotspot waiting for them. I mean no disrespect and speak in the Spirit of Peace. Dear Believer, if you cannot respond with the Spirit of Wisdom and with Love, Peace and Understanding, please do not respond.

        PS Be not forgetful….

        • JesusChrist.comUnity says:

Dear Soldier of YHWH, please read Scripture and translate the actual words. Not the words you have heard from teachers influenced by the father of lies.

The Bible CLEARLY says only God is immortal. ”He who is the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings and Lord of lords, who alone possesses immortality…” (1 Tim 6:15-16) Sadly, most are taught to believe Satan’s first lie to mankind: “You shall NOT die, you shall be like God“. (Genesis 3:4-5)

Please visit http://www.RethinkingHell.com to get scholarly discussion and debate. Once you see through the veil it all becomes quite obvious. God grants eternal life to those whom He chooses. All others perish in the Lake of fire at judgement time.

Almost all have had your view, including me. Unfortunately, we are in love with our own truth. Hard to shake.

    • SoldierOfYHWH says:

We are like God because he blessed us with the powers of reasoning (a gift he gave to humans but did not give to the rest of the animals). Lower animals are smart and even somewhat intelligent, but cannot reason. Lower animals also have souls or they would not be able to feel and express emotions. So the soul isn’t the gift, per se. It just comes with the vehicle.

When a dog does bad, he doesn’t realize he’s being bad. After being disciplined, the dog still cannot understand why he shouldn’t do because he cannot reason.

Reasoning helps us to make proper choices while understanding the consequences of these choices. Humans didn’t have intelligence until after Eve fell.Intelligence is power and like all powers, belongs to God alone.

When you use reasoning responsibly, you turn this gift into a blessing.

It is very important to never forget HE said it several times. It is time to step up beyond obiedience & move into willingness to be all GOD has made us to be.

He wants us to love Him on our own because we want to and we love Him. People who believe that there is no Hell are in for a big suprise! John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he sent His only begotten Son that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. We have to work out our salvation daily. We can’t just get saved and think, oh boy, thats all there is to it, I am going to Heaven!! It is a daily struggle and we have to be in touch with our Lord at all times to be OVERCOMERS! Wake up people before its too late. May God have mercy on you and show you the true way.Glory Be To The Father, Son and Holy Ghost, Amen.

Satan was close to taking me, but some way some how, I left with a few cuts and scrapes…God saved me that night, he didn’t allow Satan to take my life. THERE IS A HELL, as the writer of that article will soon discover unless he stop teaching people wrong doctrine!!!!!!!

    • There is no hell. There is no god. There was no jesus. You and every other believer are simply brainwashed. We are mortals that die. Period.

      • Well if their is no God. You will not be alive. Because he created you.

        • I´ve been to hell. I was hugging my knees plastered to the bottom of a black lake of fire, the fire turned blue as it got higher, I could see a blue line on the horizon. I couldn´t move a muscle and the torment was so intense that I couldn´t even scream. I called out GOD SAVE ME! I DON¨T BELONG HERE! I LOVE YOU! I remained in Hell. Then I looked down and saw a large demon lunging at me with a spear to torment me more! I cried out Jesu….and I didn´t even finish saying his name and I was back in this world…That was about 12 years ago. 10 years ago I was in complete obedience to Jesus Christ and since then he has let me see his face in everything (eyes, nose, mouth and beard) and I prove it. http://www.youtube.com/user/IseeJesuseverywhere?feature=mhee

I knew I had to cry out Jesus help me. Help save me from this horrid creature. I went to sleep softly and soundly knowing God was there. I slept like a lamb. I was asleep. And then I was awake. When I awoke I was energized. I was never like that. I know what you’ll say. You’ll say it was a psychological impulse and that I experienced a slight hallucination. Well let me tell you something. The Devil’s tool to make us think life is life and death is death. There is life after death and there is just death. But it’s a horrible painful feeling. Go with Christ and you’ll experience life after death. An eternal life. Or go to death. An eternal death.

  14. Hey, this was a pretty interesting article. I believe in hell, though. First, I think that if we view eternity as long, then we are thinking about it in the wrong way. We are putting it in time like us. God is eternal, and the bible says that to God, a day is a thousand years and a thousand years, a day. I would take this to mean that He is outside of time, or not affected by it. When we are “changed” as Paul wrote about, then I think we will be like God, eternal. So, does that mean that those are being saved will be the only ones eternal? I don’t think so. If all are raised from the dead to be judged, then that would suggest that all have something that is more than our bodies (which will have died). Second, the Bible says that those who are being saved receive eternal life, but that doesn’t mean that they aren’t eternal. Hell is described as death, and i’m pretty sure that death just means separation (separation from God?) Eternal death is therefore an option. Third, I understand Hell to be a pretty nasty place, described by many descriptions like fire, brimstone, and darkness. I also hear how heaven is described with gems and harps and rainbows. Could it be that these are just earthly descriptions that attempt to describe something that we can’t really understand yet? When I think about it, I wouldn’t say God is unjust for having an eternal Hell (for the said reasons). I would like to continue talking about this. You have my email i think; so, if you want to, shoot me an email.

  18. I often believe that I have been such a dasnppoiitment. But, know that when God sees me he sees Jesus. But, here is what I often think about. If God sees Jesus who died for all of our sins, what does Jesus see when he looks down on earth. I try so very hard to be a good person and when I try really hard, I fail. But, when I run to Jesus to say I am sorry, he holds out his arms takes me into a tight hug and tells me it is okay. Go try again but, let me help you. Each day is better than the day before.

    • Awesome sentence dude! Just yesterday God spoke to
Me when I was thinking about my past and he said none of it
Matters.. Nothing. Your forgiven. I think that’s the best part having fresh starts with God, he doesn’t want us to be perfect he just wants us to love and listen to him!

      • God spoke to you? Think sir. Those were your own thoughts. You do have control of them. Open your eyes and realize that heaven is here on Earth, until you die. Enjoy reality and stop wasting time preparing for a false after life.

Either you have a glimmer of faith that there is more than this life, or you are a cruel individual trying to lure people of faith from Jesus. Go take your atheism somewhere it’s wanted. With other atheists, maybe? You need Jesus. I’ll pray for you.

          • Consera says:

Well written arlicte. One thing I always think doesn’t get any attention is the fact that Jesus went to hell and back when he died and from what I understand he accomplished a great deal w/that and then of course coming back to life. I believe Jesus was trying to show us that we were immortal if we chose to follow his path and w/out him actually dying then we’d never get who we REALLY are. Many are called, but few choose to follow. I’m one of those people who didn’t care for Mel Gibson’s The Passion of Christ movie at all. He focused so much on his physical death and torture while totally disregarding his spiritual journey and transformation upon his death. I’ve always felt there was great mystery in this missing peace of Jesus’ sacrifice for us and for us more intellectual types it makes more sense. Many people were crucified during that period as it was a common way of execution, however what Jesus did for us was totally uncommon and miraculous. And there’s my two cents.

  19. Notes and reflections from 19 Jun 2011 semorn:a. Today’s semorn hit specifically on what kind of people we want to become, as illustrated in Rev. 21 and 22, and 1 John. b. Do you know there are 4 types of people (or lifestyles) who receive salvation and do not have to go through the Second Death. In Rev 22:11 they are honestly listed out as those who are:1. doing harm2. being vile3. righteous4. holyApparently, the first two types are what I consider only marginally saved . Sadly, they are NOT permitted to enter into the city of Heaven and could only stay OUTSIDE the pearly gate:(c. The 3rd and 4th types exemplify a true believer’s lifestyle God wants us to achieve. They are the ones who have washed their robes interestingly the only criterion for entering through the gate! Needless to say, they are truly blessed with the privilege of going into city of God and eating the fruit from the tree of life (verse 14). d. In verse 15, the Bible went on to list out 5 specific sins committed by those who will be outside the city:1. sorcery/witchcraft,2. sexually immoral3. murder4. idol worship5. loving to live a lieThis truly sent a chill down my spine! Behold the raw truth of the scripture! God’s words can be sometimes very brunt and confronting. His words expose sins in its simplest terms.e. Though loving to live a lie is different from telling lies or being liars as in Rev. 21:8, I wonder how often we are lured into chasing after fantasy, believing in falsehood and vain glory. As human beings, we tend to feed our creature comfort and seek to lessen pain in life by sometimes even aligning ourselves with the power of spiritual darkness. f. Apostle John, the one who wrote the book of Revelation, further explained in 1 John 1:6 what it means by lying. We lie by walking in the darkness and not practicing the truth. Our fellowship with God was cut off to begin with. g. To me, this is also a topic of discernment. My ears are better off being opened to hearing ALL truth and not just some truth. I also want to train my ears to discern truth from falsehood, to know God’s will from my own wishful thinking. I should also examine from time to time if there is a place of ego acting out loud foolishly in my thought life!h. Most importantly, I’m reminded in the semorn that only God’s words can set us FREE from things we are so physically and emotionally entrenched in believing to be true when they could be ALL OUT LIES. I want to press forward to live a life pleasing to God in thoughts and actions and in all my dealings with my family and fellow friends.-mk

Jude 1:6-7 And the angels who did not stay within their own position of authority, but left their proper dwelling, he has kept in eternal chains under gloomy darkness until the judgment of the great day just as Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding cities, which likewise indulged in sexual immorality and pursued unnatural desire, serve as an example by undergoing a punishment of eternal fire.

If I may say so, I think Hell is just a place for the fallen angels, because that what God says he created i for. However, I have a limited knowledge, so please take this with a grain of salt. I is just my personal opinion after reading this article.

  21. Michael says:

The reason some people can’t deal with the existence of hell is that they don’t trust Christ with it. Whatever it is, it is perfect. My theory: We must remain existent because, like God, in whose image we are made, our consciousnesses are indivisible; like a perfected element, they can’t be broken down. God will not destroy His creation. Hell is a place forgotten by God, and so, will be (or is) populated with forgotten souls who know they now no longer exist in that forgotten-ness. Hell is a necessary and potential result of free choice. Hell is not a place filled with people rejected by God, but people rejecting God. God gave us choices and will respect our decisions at every turn. Don’t want to know God? Then you won’t, maybe ever. If anyone honestly rejects God because of the church’s hypocrisy or abuse, I believe He understands that and “handicaps” them. Children who are not yet morally adept, of course, do no go to hell; that would definitely not be fair, even to my puny intellect (though even Augustine got this wrong). God does not torture anyone in Hell — He’s not there; maybe the only place in creation He chooses not to be. And so, in the vacuum of His absence, there is only suffering. I do not fear Hell; I know the saving love of the Lord — and am thankful! But I really wonder, if there were no Hell, whether I would walk as circumspectly. If there is no Hell, there would obviously be no eternal consequence for unrepentant sin. So, why should I care about morality? I’m just going to end up in Heaven anyway. And if I’m only to be annihilated, why not just live as I want, and then sleep? These questions cannot be avoided. That the mystery of evil is that it is not necessary, may be the reason Hell is. The redeemed have been saved not just to something, but also from something. The coin must have two sides, I think. Finally, I believe in some sort of Hell simply, and mostly — because Jesus spoke of it. Hell is real because there will always be people who, like the Pharisees, looking into the face of Christ, and knowing Him to be God, will spit in it, and crucify Him, unrepentantly. God loves everyone, but sadly (and incomprehensively) many will insist on hating Him, without any truly good reason, until their last breath. I believe many are able to change heart at the last moment, like the workers hired at the end of the day who, by the Master’s grace, receive a full day’s wage. But I also believe there are some who reach their ends without any desire to embrace the Lover of their souls, or who, upon crossing the event horizon of death, find it is too late, even if they could want to. The question of Hell is certainly one of the most difficult and troubling. Praise the Lord for His infinite mercy — and judgments!

      Hello Michael,

God bless you for raising important issues. Please know that we trust Christ with our very lives. We also believed that hell was a very bad place rather than a grave or place of burning. It is all we had heard from Bible teachers. After all, it is even in the Westminster confession of 1643.

We must heartily disagree that we are indivisible with God. He is God, we are dust.

Third point: God forgets? We must doubt that assertion.

You write: ‘God does not torture anyone in hell because He is not there?’ We must ask: Didn’t He create it? Doesn’t He have some level of accountability for it?

If facing our Lord and Judge and finding out that ‘He never knew us’, then being thrown into a ‘Lake of fire’ to be destroyed is not a deterrent for you to walk circumspectly then perhaps you are not entirely thinking it through.

Jesus spoke of ‘gehena’ – a burning trash heap. He spoke of ‘hades’ – the grave. Here is a good link for the words used that are translated to ‘hell’ in English. http://www.biblewheel.com/forum/showthread.php?1671-The-Three-Words-for-Hell

We totally agree that the doctrine of hell is difficult and troubling. PLEASE view the video above and read the articles. Once you do, it will be much less so. You may find that Satan has been fooling many of us for a very long time.

      Blessings to you brother.

      • I have also recently come across ‘Christian’ believers who teach that there is no eternal hell.
RaptureChrist rightly quoted Rev 14:11 which clearly indicates that hell is eternal.
If that was not the case, sinners would not have to worry that there will be punishment for rebelling against God, killing His people and committing injustice and scandalous acts, because when they die, they would simply be transferred to another death where they would rest in peace forever.
Satan is using ‘Christians’ to spread a lie that those who hate Jesus have nothing to fear. You just have to make it through Judgement Day; thereafter you are fine.

  22. Jared Foster says:

Okay great story, but then how do you explain the story told by Jesus himself of the rich man who went to hell and was in torment? He knew everything that was going on and it wasn’t instant death. Obviously hell is real, and Jesus himself told about it, and even if it leads to death, constant torment while being conscience is very clear in the Bible. How long does it take to be forever gone? 1 year is a long time to us as a human… it’s obvious hell is real, so why tell people it is not?

    • JesusChrist.comUnity says:

We had the same question Jared. The story of Lazarus is a parable, a fictitious story that teaches. It’s about caring for your fellow man. Here is an excellent article about it.

      • Patrick says:

I agree with Jared. The reality of the existence of a place of punishment in the Bible cannot be ignored or explained away.

The Bible in no way indicates that the story of Lazarus and the rich man is a parable at all, which is always clearly done in other parables. Usually parables start with something like: “He put another parable before them…” or: “Hear then the parable of…” or: “The kingdom of heaven is like…” Why would all parables be clearly identified as parables, but not this one?

Furthermore, this story that Jesus told does not fit the definition of a parable, as it contains a character which we know to be an actual living person; Abraham. (Matthew 22:32) Parables make use of likenesses or analogies to demonstrate a point, not of actual living characters. An actual person like Abraham can by definition not be an analogy of anyone else, which shows this story to be an actual event. If this was a parable, Abraham would have simply been referred to as “a man”, for there would have been no sensible use of bringing Abraham into a story that concerns a place of punishment that does not exist.

What possible reason would Jesus have to make up a non-actual event, taking place in a non-actual place, but still include an actual living person like Abraham? This is not done in any other parable in the Bible. Wherever the Bible speaks of actual persons, it also puts them in actual circumstances and places. If Jesus wanted to teach only about caring for your fellow man, He would not have had the need to concoct a fictitious story about circumstances that do not exist. Why would he confuse people like that?

Honestly, I do not like the idea of an eternal place of pain and suffering, and really struggle to put together a theology to explain God whom I know to be loving and to be Love, to also allows pain and suffering as punishment. I have personally come to the conclusion that God expects me to trust Him, even if I do not understand His actions 100%

One more thing I am certain of, is that I am not allowed to make the Bible say what I want it to say. Hell is not the only theme that falls into the classification of Godly concepts that don’t fit human rationalisation of what we think the loving God should or should not do. For instance, we would think that love can only create what is good, but Isaiah 45:7 says: “I form light and create darkness, I make well-being and create calamity, I am the LORD, who does all these things.”

The whole point is, He is LORD, and He is sovereign, not relying on our understanding of Him to make Him true and loving. We have to accept Him as He presents Himself, something which the majority of people on earth sadly would not do. The gate is narrow and the way is hard indeed.

Now I do believe I understand how Love can create evil for ultimate good, but I do not want to put it forward as doctrine, for I may be mistaken and lead others astray. I would simply encourage anyone to believe the Bible as it is, and trust God for His clearly demonstrated absolute attributes; mainly in the sacrifice of His Son Jesus, which openly declares His love to for the world.

Sometimes when I am confronted about the seemingly unloving actions of God (usually by people looking for reasons not to believe in Christ), I can only admit my inability to explain Him fully. What I can do though, is confidently testify of the redeeming work He did for me, which was an actual event, concerning an actual Man on an actual cross.

        • JesusChrist.comUnity says:

Thank you Patrick. May God lead us both to the truth.

Matthew 13:34 says Jesus only taught in parables. My study bible even titles it as such.

Even if it were not a parable the ‘Rich Man’ was not in his final destination, presumably to be the Lake of fire. In addition, it took place prior to the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. And we know that Christ was the firstfruits. – But in fact Christ has been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep.
          (1 Corinthians 15:20)

We will rise at His coming. – For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. 1 Thess. 4:16

But even more persuasive is the hundreds of very clear passages that indicate death to those who do not want Christ to pay the price for their sin. The sacrificial system required death. Jesus was raised from the dead.

A new heaven wouldn’t be much of a place knowing a Lake of fire existed which contained suffering folks for all eternity.

Doesn’t that picture seem at odds with what we know of God?

Please study some more brother. Dr. Fudge has a whole chapter in his book on The Rich Man and Lazarus.

And, yes, we agree, He died on that cross for us too. Praise Him forever!

          • Yes, the Bible says that Jesus only taught in paprables, but that does not make everything He said teaching. He also made outrights statements and gave warnings, not in parable format at all.

If Jesus says that God is His Father, he is making a statement, not in parable format, but plainly stating a fact. The same goes for this story about the rich man, where he tells of a historical event, much the same as the true story of the tower that fell on the people of Siloam. In Luke 13:3-5, Jesus clearly uses an actual event, not a parable, to warn people to repent quickly. Immediately after this true story, he starts teaching again in a parable (Luke13:6), with the Bible again clearly stating that it is a parable.

You would be wise to ignore the titles in your study Bible, which was added to scripture, not inspired by the Holy Spirit, and prone to human error. You will find that added titles in different translations differ greatly. We need to look at the text only.

You find that the literal interpretation if this story is at odds with your own idea of heaven, yet it is still there in the Bible, not in parable format at all. The problem here is that you would like this story to fit your own idea of what would seem logical to your idea of heavenly conditions. I simply accept scripture as-is, no explanations required or the need to be able to explain everything in my own terms.

            Hi Patrick,

No doubt we’ll straighten this out some day! ;-) We both love Christ a lot.

Have you read the article yet?

And one more question, what would you expect to happen if you were thrown into burning lava, a ‘Lake of fire’? Would you be asking for a glass of water?

    • You need to read a real book. One that wasn’t changed repeatedly over the last 2,000 years for the benefit of those in power. Put down the lies. I recommend a science book.

      • Oh the irony! A book that wasn’t changed repeatedly? And then you refer them to a science book? Have you any idea how science work and how many changes there have been in science books just within the last 50 years?

Interesting enough, we have actual handwritten copies of almost all books in the Tanach (Old Testament) from even before the birth of Jesus. And guess what? They are essentially the same to what we have today! I don’t know where you got the idea about “changed repeatedly”, but except for copy errors (and attempted corrections of those) when copying the Bible (by hand), there are less changes in the Bible’s text compared to any other book of the same age… and we are able to actually check this using scientific methods.
